Micrographic Surgery and Dermatologic Oncology Fellowship
(Formerly Procedural Dermatology/Mohs Surgery)
The University of California, San Diego (UCSD) Micrographic Surgery and Dermatologic Oncology Fellowship consists of a one-year training program accredited by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) and the American College of Mohs Surgery (ACMS). Under the direction of S. Brian Jiang, MD, FACMS, Fellowship Program Director, the fellow will obtain ACGME and ACMS certification. The curriculum emphasizes comprehensive clinical training in cutaneous surgery and oncology.
The fellow will participate in all of dermatologic surgery unit activities located at our state-of-the-art facility at University Pacific Center in La Jolla (S. Brian Jiang, MD and Arisa Ortiz, MD). These procedures include Mohs micrographic surgery, reconstructive surgery, destructions, biopsies, cryotherapy, excisions, nail surgery, dermabrasion, scar revisions, sclerotherapy, neurotoxins, dermal fillers, thread lifts, deoxycholic acid, chemical peels, cosmetic lasers, lights, and devices including Candela V-beam and Alex Trivantage, Cutera Excel-V, In mode Platform (Fractora RF, Forma, Diolaze 810nm, Lummeca, BodyFX RF, MiniFX), Excel-V (532nm/1064nm), Exilis Elite RF, Fraxel Dual (1550nm/1927nm) & Clear and Brilliant, Intragen, Intracel, Sciton Joule Platform (Erbium 2940nm, ProFractional, BBL, Halo Laser & Profractional Laser Ultherapy), and Coolsculpting with Zwave. The fellow will also have close interaction with our dermatopathologist, Dr. Brian Hinds.
UC San Diego Dermatology has an active conference schedule which includes journal clubs (surgical and cosmetic), grand rounds, dermatopathology conferences, clinical conferences and basic science conferences. The fellow will have an opportunity to participate in relevant activities depending on clinical schedule.
Candidate Information & Requirements
Candidates considering a career in academic dermatology are strongly encouraged to apply. UC San Diego emphasizes multidisciplinary approach which is essential to the success of a Mohs surgeon in an academic environment. With the vision of training academic Mohs surgeons in mind, in addition to the ACGME and ACMS fellowship curriculum requirements, the fellow will be expected to initiate and complete a research project to be submitted for publication and presentation at a national meeting. The fellow will also be expected to be a role model to residents and instruct them in procedural dermatology during the fellowship.

This program requires all applicants to be a graduate of a US ACGME-accredited Dermatology Residency Program or an RCPSC-accredited or CFPC-accredited dermatology residency program in Canada.
